Progression of a Puppy-Week 7
🐾 7-Week Puppy Development
At 7 weeks old, puppies are entering an exciting stage of development. Their personalities are becoming much clearer, they’re learning quickly, and they’re gaining confidence and independence every day.
🧠 Learning & Temperament
Individual personalities and energy levels are becoming easier to identify.
Puppies are developing better problem-solving skills and learning through repetition.
Their ability to focus is improving, making this a great age for short, positive training sessions.
Temperament traits such as confidence, sensitivity, independence and people-focus become more noticeable.
🐶 Social Development
Puppies continue learning important lessons from their littermates, including bite inhibition, appropriate play and canine communication. Positive interaction with different people, sounds, surfaces and everyday activities helps build confidence.
🦴 Physical Development
Coordination, balance and strength are improving rapidly. Puppies are running, climbing, wrestling and exploring with much more control. Their baby teeth are in, so chewing and mouthing are very normal at this age.
🏡 Preparing for Their Families
Seven weeks is an important transition period as puppies begin getting ready for life in their new homes. We continue working on:
Crate and playpen familiarity
Early toileting routines
Handling and grooming exercises
Household sights and sounds
Short periods of independence
Positive human interaction
New surfaces, toys and age-appropriate challenges
❤️ Building the Foundation
The experiences puppies have during these early weeks help shape how they approach the world. At seven weeks, the goal isn’t to create a perfectly trained puppy—it’s to build confidence, resilience, trust and a positive attitude toward learning.
Every day brings them one step closer to becoming happy, confident family companions. 🐾
